October 13th - Crowdfunding Seminar: California's Next Gold Rush!

At the same time that we hear about the lack of angel investments and venture capital, we're seeing some amazing results from entrepreneurs that turn to Internet crowdfunding sites. The Internet and the recent JOBS Act opened this new way of raising capital, as much as millions of dollars per campaign raised in chunks of $5, $50 or $500 contributions that bring immediate fuel for startups with more flexibility than ever before. The crowdfunding effect has been one of the biggest changes to the Stock Market and VC community in decades. It is crucial to understand this platform, and more so the legislative and regulatory changes that are set for January 2013.

This seminar includes presentations from an expert panel that includes successful crowdfunding campaign operators and an author of the actual Crowdfunding legislation in the JOBS Act:

  • Sherwood (Woodie) Neiss of Startup Exemption: "Crowdfunding 101" from the author of legislation in the JOBS Act.
  • Howard Leonhardt of MyoStim: "Implications of Crowdfunding"
  • Ryan FeitofSeedInvest.com: "Essentials of Crowdfunding"
  • Michael Fultz of Crowdfund Mafia: "Launch Your Campaign in 30 Days"
  • Egbert Oostburg of Koinonia Labs and StartupAmerica: "Crowdfunding in California"
  • Gabriela Dow and Robert Reyes of StartupCircle: "Opportunity for San Diego Startups"
  • Catt White of San Diego Public Market (by video): Crowdraised $146,121 in 16 days!
  • Craig Stern of SOLOEyewear: Crowdraised $30,200 in 30 days and featured on the Today Show!
  • Shelly Bowen of All Fixed Up: Raised $17,294 in 30 days!
  • Alvaro Martinez Esteve of L8 SmartLight: Raised $203,677 in 45 days!
  • Eric Engelman of San Diego Mayor's Office: Crowdfunding for Cities
Panel moderated by Gabriela Dow, including this video of a successful crowdfunding campaign.
